More Calvin, Yellow Lab

Calvin, 18x24, acrylic on canvas, work in progress
I worked on Calvin some more yesterday before going to work. I think I am finally getting his face right. I would like to thank everyone for stopping by last week and encouraging me. I think I still need to work on those paws too. That one in the foreground really bugs me, I think I've figured out the problem; it doesn't look thick enough to me, what do you all think?

I've been trying to get finished because I fly out Tuesday morning for 2 1/2 weeks in Italy and really need to get this guy delivered before then!

Happy Paint Party Friday! Join the party by clicking the link over on the right.

  2. That is amazing! I think it looks very good. The paw looks slightly small now that you mention it, but I'd have to see the actual dog to compare.

  3. He looks like a wonderful, gentle pup! I love his fur, don't know how you accomplish that! As far as the paw...I don't know, I can't find anything wrong with it :)

  4. Beautiful portrait of Calvin. I think he looks great. You can see his sweet personality. Maybe just a little shadow under his paw is all you need. Have a great time in Italy! Happy PPF. ~ Rhonda

  9. Lovely face. I think the paw has a kink in it. It looks like its on tippy toes! Great painting all round though

  10. I am loving Calvin; you have captured such great personality and warmth in his face- I agree that a shadow under his paw might help- also the shadow you have where his arm meets his chest might be a little too strong, giving it a kind of weird angle? Overall I think he is wonderful and your clients are very lucky to be getting such an incredible piece of art!
Happy PPF (a day late ;))

  12. He's looking great. I think what bugs you might be that the two front paws don't "match". Maybe if you deepen the shadow under the spot where his paw lifts up (would it be his ankle?) it will make it more evident that he has one paw lifted slightly.

  13. Italy! How wonderful! I hope you have a perfect time there!

Your painting is looking great. I think his face looks so sweet. He looks like he's game for anything (don't you love that about dogs?). After you said that about his paw, I think you might be right. It does look less in proportion to his other feet.

    Happy PPF!

  17. He is gorgeous! I think the way he is pushing that paw down makes it look a bit odd but that's what he's doing so you captured it well.
